Question 3:     Where can I purchase automobile insurance?

Automobile insurance can be purchased through a number of different types of providers. Which one you select is a matter of personal preference.

  • Broker - An insurance broker has contracts to sell insurance for more than one insurance company. Brokers work for you and not the insurance company.
  • Agent - An insurance agent will generally sell the products offered by only one insurer.
  • Direct Writer - A direct writer insurer has its own sales employees to sell its policies through an office, call centre and/or website.

A license is required to sell insurance in the province. If you are unsure whether a broker, agent or company offering insurance is licensed, please contact Service NL.
