Question 17: I have an issue with my automobile insurance. Who can help me?

The first step when dealing with an issue is to speak to the insurance representative through which you obtained automobile insurance (e.g.; broker, agent or direct writer). Insurers typically have an internal complaint process that policyholders can avail of when an issue arises.

In circumstances where the issue cannot be resolved between you and your insurance company, you may contact the Board or the Superintendent of Insurance.

  • For inquiries regarding automobile insurance rates, risk classification systems and underwriting guidelines you may contact the Board for additional assistance as follows:
  • Inquiries related to all other automobile insurance matters should be directed to the Superintendent of Insurance. Information regarding the Superintendent of Insurance’s complaint process can be found on the Service NL website as follows: https://www.gov.nl.ca/snl/insurance/complaint-process/
